Sony's new plan to avoid class action lawsuits

These kinds of things are driving me away from the gaming industry altogether. I will still be getting a PS3, but this pretty much tells you why I will never be hooking it up to the internet.

Seriously, things like that should automatically void a terms-of-service. Although apparently the supreme court of the US has already judged that it can be enforced in the US at the very least. I suspect Sony will still be receiving class actions in europe, etc.

Cellphones

What the fuck is with the phone companies that insist on calling you up to offer you a brand new shiny cellphone (complete with multiple year contract I'm sure) and then INSIST you absolutely must have one since in this day and age who can afford NOT to have one?

Let's see.... I can afford not to have one!

"You need one for emergencies" - No, no I don't. I'm single. I have no immediate family I need to be in contact with 24/7. If something happens at one of the other branches of the family, they can handle it well enough themselves and let me know via a message on my machine.

Yes, I can see a few isolated situations where I could use a cellphone. I'm not blind. However I'm also well aware of how fucked up cellphone billing can be and I'll have none of it. When the monthly cost of a cellphone is as predictable as a landline, call me. Until then GO THE FUCK AWAY AND STOP CALLING ME.

Just imagine, if I had a cellphone these fucking assholes could call me no matter where I was to offer these "great" promotions!

Next time they call I'm not even going to pretend to be nice. I'm just going to go back to my original explanation of why I'm not interested in whatever life saving miracle they're selling, not that it was really successful at stopping the fuckers from calling back later.

That of course is "I'm sorry, but under no circumstances do I accept any service or product offered over the phone. It is to discourage unknown people from calling this number and to protect me from possible scams. If I'm in the market for a similar product of what you are offering, I will take the initiative and do my own research. Additionally I do not give donations to charities over the phone. I give a portion of each paycheck to the United Way which will see the money goes to important charities in my area. If there's any particular charity I care enough to explicitly donate to, rest assured I've already done the necessary legwork to donate rather than sitting on my ass at home hoping for a call."

As you can see, that is quite a mouthful, which is why I more or less stopped using it. It is in fact the charities side that prompted this reply originally - due to an experience my sister had. One time she gave a 5 dollar donation to a charity over the phone. Within weeks she was suddenly getting 10 times the calls looking for donations from all sorts of charities. And it persisted for a while.

Also I should use spellcheck more often. :P
