Shenmue 3 Kickstarter Nearing Completion
Jul. 11th, 2015 09:00 pmOnly 6 days left til the kickstarter finishes up on the 17th. It's been funded since the first day regardless, but over the last month it managed to pull in another million dollars. So the game is definitely going to be a Thing. About freaking time imo. It might even be "too late" as some critics like to complain but so long as it doesn't end up being a horribly bugridden mess I may end up getting it at some point.
However about that mess. I find myself wondering about the stretch goals that went all the way up to about 11 million. (of which many won't be met obviously!) Every single one of them are directly related to adding something on to the game. You know... like DLC!
And so I'll make a prediction right here for 2017, or whenever the final game is released. Keep an eye on all those goals that don't get reached in the kickstarter. I have this sneaky suspicion that all those will end up being paid DLC addons. Either individually, or grouped together by area (in much the way the goals are arranged.) We'll probably also see some of it done as pre-order only bonuses of course.
Personally, I hope I'm wrong. It'd be a shame to avoid the game due to DLC whoring, but I'm not going to make an exception to my personal guidelines even for Shenmue. As it stands I regret making an exception to the guidelines for Project Diva F 2nd so that'll just add fuel to the fire to reinforce my decision when Shenmue 3 launches.
