Man... I wish I had the chutzpah and charisma to rant in front of a camera for over an hour at a time like this guy, rather than just ranting facelessly behind a keyboard on a blog/Facebook.
In any case, yeah, total agreement. "Games as a service" is horseshit, and it always has been, and it always will be.
And yeah, I've pretty much come to the same conclusion that "vote with your wallet" is a non-starter as far as fixing any of these problems is concerned. It's what you say when either 1) you've pretty much already thrown in the towel or 2) you're actively on the opposing side to start with and are using it as an "argument" to shut down any criticism. (I.e. they use it in the sense of "If you don't like it, don't buy it, and either way, shut your mouth.") Far too many fucking morons "vote with their wallet" in favor of the bullshit, because they don't have the willpower to do otherwise, even while they excoriate it on social media and in forums and such. I'm almost to the point where I'm like "well, you deserve what you get, you stupid idiots" while I just abandon modern video gaming entirely, and in many cases, such as "games as a service" games, I'm already well beyond that point. Aside from a very rare couple of games that I occasionally reinstall and play, namely The Secret World and Star Trek Online (and for which I have not bought and will not ever buy any of their fucking microtransactions, so I'm out nothing except time if those ever do go down forever), I do not play any other games that are online-only and which will disappear forever once the servers go down. I try to avoid them entirely like the fucking plague that they are.
