So a week or two ago people started complaining about how Microsoft changed a few things to trick even more people into installing an OS they didn't want. Namely they went against the very nature of convention and changed the functionality of the big X button in the corner - that up until now would cancel the attempted upgrade the way it should - to instead mean confirmation of the scheduled time for the upgrade. Normally when you click an X it doesn't mean "OK". But that's what Microsoft did.

And it pissed people off. So Microsoft did their half-step back apology and promised it would soon have an update to get rid of that deceitful behaviour.

And it's now out! What change did they make? They removed the X button entirely. There is now no way to cancel the attempted install scheduling, beyond making sure none of the Windows 10 nagware patches are on your computer. (There's a few programs to help with this apparently, but it's getting progressively clear you'll have to shut off Windows updates completely before too long.)

Oh, and just for shits and giggles, I loaded up Windows Update again, same as I do each time there's some new story about Windows 10 bullshit, and let it search for new updates (though I haven't actually downloaded or installed any updates in months now) and, sure enough, there was KB3035583 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3035583) yet the fuck again, sitting there in the "Optional" section, italicized because it's "recommended." Even though I most definitely hid it once the hell again the last time I saw it. (http://owsf2000.livejournal.com/128736.html) They merely change the "publication date" on it, and there it pops up again, even though I continually hide the goddamn thing.

And again, fuck Micro$hit forever.

And now even though it's optional, they've helpfully ticked it for you!

I'm just waiting for it to inevitably start showing up in the "Important" section as a "Critical" update... ¬_¬

But then, of course, if one has their Windows Update set to "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates," which a lot of people do (and which I used to, but don't anymore, precisely because of this bullshit), then it'd already be showing up in the "Important" section.
