Just a rant. Hopefully a short one. A new type of "CD" that some new releases come out these days are on a stupid ass hybrid-disc-double-sided piece of shit that deserves to be used as a replacement for clay discs in shooting practice. Now for the million dollar question. What do I think about these ingenious wastes of material?

If I haven't made it clear enough, perhaps you just need to get some sleep and approach the journal entry again 8hrs from now with a fresh perspective. So far, I've seen only 2 cds released in this format, although I will admit I don't look at every single cd released. I bought one last summer or so, Simple Plan. It was an accidental purchase - I didn't even realize these things existed at the time and SOME of the discs at the store at the time were the regular types where you had a normal CD for music and a normal bonus dvd for the extras that few people care about.

When I realized what I had, I noticed on the package that it said "this cd may not work with all players". Ok, fair enough. However, what I did not expect was that THE DAMNED DISC WOULD NOT WORK WITH ANYTHING I HAD EXCEPT FOR MY PORTABLE DISCMAN. The discman physically grips the cd, thus why it probably had a chance of playing it. Even then it had a hard time gripping it due to the odd size of the inner hole - I couldn't actually walk around with the portable discman or there would be a good chance of the disc skipping or getting released from the drive's grip.

You see, the disc is heavier than a regular cd. As a result, air-based spinning drives tend to have trouble picking it up and reading it properly. That's ok. That's fine. I'm not a die hard fan of Simple Plan. There were probably 4-5 songs I liked on that disc and I can get by just fine listening to them on the radio once in a blue moon or less.

But the experience has left me sour on the format, naturally. To the point where I've decided not to endorse this format in any way shape or form. I will never buy a hybrid cd. Ever. When I get like this, I follow through quite efficiently. It gets commonly used with stores more than particular products - for instance there was a time I avoided going into a Mcdonald's for almost 2 years (and I had decided it would be a 2 year 'ban') because the service I received on one particular night was excessively inexcusable. (I expect burger patties on my big macs. I'm not kidding.)

Anyway. Back to the hybrid crap. I like Matchbox 20. The lead singer has recently released a solo cd on his own. I was going to buy it, as I've heard a couple of the tracks on the radio - almost excessively as per normal radio standards around here. However, unfortunately it was the second time I've come across the hybrid CD. Unfortunately, I don't see any regular version available for it.

So, I'm sorry Rob: I love the songs but you can suck it.

I won't be purchasing the CD unless I see a STANDARD cd release. You are the first victim of my self-imposed ban. :) Granted, it's the music company and upper management that's losing money over their decision to release those hellish contraptions, but it's a shame it also serves to drop bands and singers I listen to down further and further on the Important To Buy list. New music helps revitalize interest, but if new songs are only available on hybrid CDs, they won't get listened to - and the money that would have went towards that CD will simply go to another band, and another music company that's sane enough to keep with standard cds.

And while I'm not one that has the opportunity to go to concerts, you can bet if I DO go to a concert it'll be for a band I'm able to keep up with. If I can't due to hybrid cds, sucks to be them. :)

iTunes? Buy downloads to get the songs anyway and avoid the hybrid cd? Screw that. I want a material possession. I want a CD with artwork. If the music industry can't deliver, they can't have my money. I'll just take that budget and move it over to the video game budget.

What brought this on? Foamy did. That squirrel's rant on CDs I completely agree with and if I could do flash, I can assure you there would be poorly animated hybrid cds in the background strung up by their balls behind me as I rant.

Bitch.
