Hello Streisand Effect
Jun. 22nd, 2008 10:37 pmAs per slashdot, Atari is apparently on the warpath to stamp out bad reviews of it's latest game, Alone in the Dark. Predictably enough, about x100 more people know about the negative reviews as well as Atari's attempt to strongarm reviewers of the game they pretty much banked their (Atari's) future on.
I for one, didn't particularly even know about Alone in the Dark. Now I do. Now I also don't feel like purchasing it. Essentially, since Atari refused to send them official review copies despite being asked, the reviewers went out and bought them as soon as they could. In one case, this was actually before the official street date. One store basically sold it to them early. As such, Atari accused that group, along with 2 other groups that released their reviews after the street date, of illegally downloading it. All things being said, I'm far more willing to believe Atari is just trying to crush bad reviews since this game is so important to their fiscal year.
