You know one of those main excuses at gamestop for gutting the new games is so that they can put them out on the display racks (That they really should have cases instead if they're that paranoid of theft)

And that you'll go in there and see like a fucking ROW of a new release all gutted. Every single copy. With one particular game a few years back I remember over a dozen copies of the game on the racks, and not a single sealed copy.

Anyhow, since they usually have the latest hyped shit in the display case behind the counter I rarely have a reason to look at it. Yesterday I glanced up at it and do you know what I saw?

Row upon row of "COMING SOON" DISPLAY BOXES.

Yes. And of the exact same games they have on the shelving racks out in the actual store area. They claim they don't have space in the back or in the display case which is why they gut the games to put on the shelves, yet they're wasting a LOT of room gutting limited edition copies of games instead of putting THOSE in the damned display case in preference of those stupid empty display cases.

Yeah, there's no mercy any more on this gutted issue with them.

In my not so humble opinion, if a game has been opened, for any reason, then at that point it is and forever will be "used", and should be sold as such, otherwise it is false advertising or whatever you want to call it. Even if the game itself hasn't actually been played yet, it is still a "used game" in my eyes, if the shrink-wrap has been broken and the disc/manual/etc has been removed.

If they want to sell new games, but don't want to just have them out on the shelves due to fears of them being shoplifted or whatever, then just put at most one (1) display box (or preferably just an image of the box) and some paper tickets or something similar. Customer wants new game? Customer takes a ticket and brings it to the counter. Employee then grabs undefiled new game, still pristine in its original shrink-wrap, from the secured location, and proceeds to exchange this for the customer's money.

This would also save them a hell of a lot on shelf space as well, such that instead of an entire wall being eaten up with a million copies of whatever is the flavor-of-the-month, they just have one (1) slot assigned for that game and the rest can be used for other games, even if they do still have a million copies sitting in the back of the store.

But then, you're saying that the reason that they're putting it all out on the shelves to begin with is because they don't have enough room? Then they should perhaps consider buying a bigger building.

This leads into another complaint I've long had with them, and is one of the reasons I just use Amazon for everything lately. They never have enough copies and are always running out of stuff, especially if it's something new and popular (or old and no longer/never popular). For example, when the new Xbox 360 Slim was released, one of my co-workers was telling me about how, if you pre-ordered one of them from the nearby EB that day, then you might be in line to get one from, like, their third or so shipment, a few weeks from that day. And, again, this was for pre-orders, mind you. Heaven help you if you walked in there off the street expecting to get one.

Well, you're right but in this specific instance the thing that was pissing me off was that they were wasting what little room they allow themselves for storing the sealed games (behind the counter in the glass case) with empty coming soon display cases. Cases that were identical to the ones they also had out on the racks.

On the 360 note, I noticed that the EB near me is selling off their older 360's at 149.99. I'm not sure if that's the arcade version or not, although regardless of if it is, I wouldn't waste the money on it just to run the risk of getting my very own RRoD.
