"I should start a counter on how much money ebgames/gamestop has lost due to their insistance on mangling product and calling it still new. With just these two games alone, that total is now up to $69.98. (49.99 and 19.99) "

Let's add $44.99 to the total.

They had 3-5 or so copies of Persona 3 Portable today. And no copies sealed. Meaning once again they gutted every copy they had to put on the shelf.

They lost another sale.

I think I'll start a counter on my webpage next to the Games Complete list listing all the sales lost to video game stores due to them failing to keep their product intact. I can't just say "gamestop/ebgames" however since a couple other stores in town also do this shit. Gamestop/ebgames is just by far the worst at it.

*update*

I now own Persona 3 Portable. I bought it at Wal-Mart for $44.83 - properly sealed.

My only means to order stuff online would be with a money order. This effectively limits me. I am very close to swearing off of almost all of the local shops tho. The only two that have anything non-mainstream are ebgames and Gamezilla. And Gamezilla is getting as bad as ebgames with the game gutting.

I'd still be limited to amazon.ca tho for the most part. I should take a look through that and see if those visa/mastercard gift cards can be used there. Supposedly they can be used anywhere credit cards can be used "with a few exceptions".

I know a lot of people have credit/debit card issues but my thought is that the reality of online ordering makes having one worthwhile. It's entirely possible to get a no-fee credit card with a very small limit (say, $200) that you use only as your online payment. You pay the balance in full with a check/MO when you get the bill and you incurr no interest. Likewise because the limit is very low you don't have that "take a vacation on credit" temptation. It's basically just an extension cord.

those gift cards are difficult to use online. Since the name on teh card in the visa database or whatever doesn't match your name, it gets flagged or something and doesn't go through. I tried a couple websites with one when I got one for xmas this year. :(

also, when they get low, i've found very few places willing to split a bill between the gift card and real cash. visa must be making a MINT off all the unused money on those cards.

I wouldn't doubt it. Thanks for the tip. If I experiment with this I'll be sure to just get a card with a small amount for testing.

if you get a card for testing, get it in an amount that can be used for ONE purchase. like, if you know a book or something will cost $7.43, get the card for $7.43.

Small amounts of leftover money on a generic credit/gift card are practically useless, since the store has to split your total amount between the card and the till. it's not a like a store-brand giftcard that they can just swipe through their own systems or whatever. :(

YMMV, I guess, unless you want to keep refilling the card or something.
