I'm going to try to get back into this 'reading' thing. As in, READING reading. Not web forums, comics, and manga. Actual BOOKS. Use to do that a decade ago and burnt myself out by reading too much I think. Probably best if I try to get into a habit of reading before bed or something...

If I've been reading at all lately, it's been stuff like Mick Foley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mick_Foley#Writing_career) (I've read the first two memoirs so far) or Stephen King (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_King). For myself, I'm going to try to get back into reading up on programming stuff. I've got quite a few gaming AI books laying around, some of which I've read parts, but none of which I've read all.

As an aside, I kind of want to also get back into game programming again now that I have a computer again, given that it's what I went to school for and all, but given that I spend all day writing automation test scripts in Python at work, it's kind of difficult to get enthused about doing any programming in my free time as well. :/

And here is something that I've never mentioned to anyone else before, but for the past few years now, I've felt like I've got a novel, or at least maybe a long-ish short story or novella or whatever, kicking around inside my head that wants to be free, but I haven't done anything about it yet. I keep saying I'm going to take a crack at it one of these days, but as of yet I haven't actually gotten off my lazy ass and done it yet.

The book I'm going to be reading starting tomorrow, a little bit each day, will be Phantom by Terry Goodkind. It's a book my little sister bought me for christmas a couple years ago but .... well, procrastination. >_>

I've started on it already once, but it's been so long I might just start reading from the beginning again, and just glance over the the stuff to refresh my memory until I get to where I was before.

After I finish this, I'll take another crack at finishing Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I got like half way through that thing before but never finished it. (Although my older sister and I listened to an audio novel of it long ago, so I'm pretty much spoiled on the entire thing anyhow.)

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is good, yeah. I kinda didn't like the way the last part ended though, especially given that the author himself died before he got around to writing the next part, which made it even more depressing. >_>

Oh, I've had a story in my head for the last few years as well. Although really it'd be better drawn out as a comic. And since my art skills are... well, non existant for the most part, the odds of this thing getting out of my head are pretty slim.

For actual writing I'd probably prefer to do OW! stuff first for a while to get back into the swing of writing. But even with that I'd likely procrastinate.

Are you taking reccommendations? If so, have a preference? Fiction/nonfiction? Genre?

You can make recommendations, although I can't say if I'll end up reading them. Typical things I'd probably read would probably be fiction/fantasy, sci-fi, and comedy types.

I've just gotten back into reading for pleasure myself, too. I'd forgotten how freaking hard it can be to find a quiet place where people will LET you read without asking, "What are you reading? What's it about? Is it good? Why are you reading it?" etc etc etc. Even at home, I have to deal with Matt poking at me when I'm reading.

Best of luck!
