I was losing hope on Tuesday when I didn't see it in stores. I thought it was delayed past the 20th... But torrents never lie, so when I saw it on there I went back to the store the next day and bought a nice sealed copy of it at ebgames. I'd say this is an improvement in their record, after all this is probably the 3rd sealed game in a row from them (of course I was there for each of them on the day of their release) but I'm not going to.
After all, it seems it came down to the person who served me. The guy was willing to actually check the back room for sealed copies on his own. Based on the attitude the girl had, if she had served me she would have just dug the discs for the display box out of the shelf behind her.
So anyway, I've been playing it for the last few hours. Must actually do this "sleep" thing for a few hours before I can get back to the game again tonight. The battle system is quite different from the first game. There's an attack phase and a defense phase. During the attack phase, you trigger attacks as fast as possible in an period of time and set the songs you want the rey's to sing. (you have up to two in the party instead of one.)
In the defense phase you protect the rey's as the monsters try to target them. This is done by pressing a button at just the right time to minimize the damage the rey's take from an attack.
I don't know if this is how things will work in the long run or if it's just for the start, but the cosmosphere seems a little more timed to events. Hard to mention specifics without giving spoilers I suppose so I won't bother. (I'm only at the beginning anyway so it might just be a special case!)
A few other things are more complicated as well. For instance not only are the rey's talking to YOU. They're talking to each other... ABOUT you. ^^ I can see many interesting conversations unfold in the future. :P
Otherwise the dive metaphor is still very strong in the game. Those who know what I mean, understand what the metaphor is. ^^
