Linux Plans

I've been considering switching to Linux again the last couple of days. Most likely I'm going to use ubuntu. The live cd for it just finished downloading. Going to do some hash checks to make sure it's good then start trying to make a good CD burn of it. This is actually a little harder than you'd think given my computer, but I'll see what I can do. The real issue will be obtaining sufficient alternate programs for the things I typically do. I'm sure wine will help me with some of the things such as playing Aardwolf. The aardwolf mush client is Windows only, but has been tested and works in linux under wine from what I recall. For a couple things there isn't going to be much of a change (other than getting linux versions of the programs of course!) such as using pidgin and firefox and xchat, etc.
Going to need to look for sufficient image viewers/editors, a replacement for winamp, and something for video. Also will have to make sure I have a suitable ftp program for my website updates.
The plan will be to be on linux completely by the end of febuary. Hopefully before that. The kinds of things that made me drag my feet in the past (other than procrastination) have been re-evaluated (games etc) and I don't consider them a reason for staying with Windows anymore. Seriously it's been months since I've played anything more complicated than some random flash game on the web - and so long as I can maintain flash support on linux those aren't going to be lost!
So hopefully I won't be sidetracked again like the last time I considered doing this! I'm sure the first thing I'll do once I have linux going will be to blog about it anyway. :)
