"Recycled"
Dec. 19th, 2011 08:49 pmSo what does one do when their business practices bring an industry down hard on "used game" sales? (And yeah, it's the fact that they were/are selling used games for 5 dollars off new prices, and mangling new product so that there really wasn't any difference most of the time..)
Why it's simple! Get out of the Used Games business altogether!
And get into the Recycled Games business!
That's essentially what it seems GameStop is doing. While I was in there today I saw 3 different tags instead of the usual 2. "New". "Used". And now "Recycled".
I'm not quite sure what they're going for in this. As I have actually seen 3 different price tags for each version of the same game. (59.99 for new , 54.99 for recycled, 49.99 for used) but at the same time I've seen other examples where the Recycled and Used prices were identical.
At first I was kind of hoping there was some actual difference. According to the clerk tho the difference is in the color of the tag. Meaning as far as they've seen, it's just marketing wanting to call their crappy used games something other than used games. Because used games is a bad thing for the industry and all that after all, according to the industry.
I fully expect people to get confused in the name change, and defend "recycled" games as not being used. This is what makes kittens cry - because they know better.
To me, it matters little. Once it's unwrapped, it's now "used". I don't give a flying fuck what they want to call it to make it look better so when it comes to me deciding on if i want to buy it or not, I will just continue reading "recycled" as "used" and treat it as such.
For the record, when I buy "recycled" things, I still don't pay 5 dollars less than what it would cost new.
