After observing my bandwidth speedz for the day, I came to the conclusion that it was going noticably slower than the Ultra High Speed service I'm paying for. I called my ISP to check what the problem could be - I had this exact service at the old apartment and it ran over 2 times as fast. After a bit of holding and checking, we've come to the conclusion that the technician left me the wrong modem. The firmware inside must be for the regular high speed. So it's doing it's job, just not the job it's suppose to be doing. They're shipping me the correct modem so it should arrive in the mail within a couple of days. I'm going to continue using this one until it arrives as this is still better than being offline.

Anyone else find it funny how the technician I had to wait a week for ended up having nothing to do since the line was all set up for the internet due to previous occupants - except to give me the modem.

And he gave me the wrong one.

Got the replacement today. And it's identical to the one they gave me the first time. It goes about the same speed and reliablity as well. After another call, the person I spoke to this time told me that there's nothing wrong with the modem itself, but they aren't suppose to be giving me that brand/model. the servers in this town use network cards that can't do anything with these things. (Although the modems can do ultra highspeed in other towns where newer/different network cards are used.) So they're sending me yet ANOTHER modem, and from the description of it this should be the right modem. Sounds identical to the one my roomate had at the old place. So everything should be fine and dandy by tomorrow if they shipped it today, or tomorrow if it missed pickup. ^^;
