The Great Backlog Purge of 2019
Jul. 12th, 2019 07:52 amI buy too much crap and then never get around to watching/reading/etc it. So starting today I'll begin tackling my backlog of crap I've bought over the years. (I still have some PS2 games in shrink wrap for crying out loud.)
There's a couple things I will be wanting to pick up later this year if it comes out, but that stuff can be counted on one hand. Otherwise I'm going to go back and start reading/watching/playing/etc the games/shows/movies/comics/books/etc that have slowly piled up over the last decade.
Consider I have probably 2 crates of random movies/anime that I bought from HMV when they were liquidating. That alone is going to be able to keep me occupied for the rest of the year or more.
Naturally one of the things that's prompting me to do this is to save up cash by not spending it in the first place. We'll see how it goes by Christmas. ^^

Date: 2019-07-19 05:24 am (UTC)There are some games I've been picking out that do take time to get through all the same - the utawareru games for instance are mostly visual novels and if you actually let the voices play out you'll find yourself spending a good 70 hours from start to finish. Steins Gate was pretty long as well iirc.
This weekend I think I'm going to pull out the ps2 and ps3 games out of the boxes and put them into 3 piles. "Keep" "Play&Dump" and "Dump". Not sure what I'll do for dumping although I'll probably give my niece and nephew first grabs. Likely wouldn't get anything worthwhile trying to pawn'em off at any rate.
After they're sorted I'll start going through the Play&Dump pile. Granted some of those may turn into Keeps before the end of it.

Date: 2019-07-19 05:51 pm (UTC)I've been kinda sorta looking to get into the Chaos;Head/Steins;Gate/Robotics;Notes series, but just haven't done so yet, for various reasons (e.g. lack of translation and availability for the first game, second game still too pricey, third game not on Steam yet [and probably too pricey when it is], etc.) Not sure how connected they are as a series or if they're each stand alone or what. Apparently they're not too connected, but still. Beyond that, also some other of nitro+ and/or Gen Urobuchi stuff, whether it's games or anime or what, but again just haven't really done it yet. (I still have a ton of stuff like .hack and SAO and such that I actually have available to me right now but which I still haven't touched yet to get through probably before getting to any of that, though.)
I wish there was a way to "dump" some of my Steam games, especially ones I got through bundles or steep sales but which then turned out to be either unplayable or pure shit or both when I tried them. ¬_¬

Date: 2019-07-20 07:31 pm (UTC)So if you see either of the Steins;Gate games on a flash sale, it's safe to pick it up without worrying about the other two series. Although Steins;Gate 0 takes place after the first game and you'd probably want to play the first game first.
Regarding dumping steam games, there doesn't appear to be a way to literally remove them from your collection but you can sort and hide them from your list so you don't have to look at them at least.
In the gamelist, rightclick on the game offending your eyes and rightclick. select Set Categories, and click the 'hidden' box. It'll at least take it off your main game list. If you change your mind and want to play it later you can find it from the 'library' tab at the bottom where it shows the list of hidden games.
Granted you probably know this already but since I just found out about it, I gotta type it up.
In my case I might start tagging games as "Completed" when I indeed complete them. That'll move them out of the main list as well but instead to just a separate section in the list that I can minimize to see what's left.
