(Prefacing all of this with the fact that I haven't actually played Terraria in at least a couple months now, but I could pretty easily get back into it.)
I'm not sure there's even a difference between multiplayer and singleplayer worlds in Terraria, since the world selection thing comes up after you pick Single or Multiplayer and the world list is the same for both (if you pick to host for multiplayer, at least).
I currently have three worlds, a large one (my "main" one, though I don't spend as much time there as I used to) which is a Crimson (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/The_Crimson) based world, and two small worlds, one of which is Corruption (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/The_Corruption) based and the other I think is Crimson again. I forget which at the moment, but on at least one of those small worlds (and maybe even on the large on as well, now that I think of it), I've killed the Wall of Flesh (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Wall_of_Flesh) and bumped it into Hardmode (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Hardmode). My dude is buff enough now that I can fairly easily roflpwn bosses like the Wall and Plantera (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Plantera) and the Golem (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Golem) and most of the other Hardmode bosses, but the couple of times I tried Duke Fishron (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Duke_Fishron) he kicked my ass. I think that was part of the reason I stopped playing it at the time, because I didn't feel like taking the time to prepare an arena for him as I didn't have the proper materials at hand. Also haven't tried a Pumpkin Moon (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Pumpkin_Moon) or Frost Moon (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Frost_Moon) yet, either, as I know I probably wouldn't be ready to not die quickly and horribly in those.
