Regarding SOCOM, from what I hear, multiplayer is THE main reason to play it. Missions etc online are all about teamwork/communication, etc which you just don't have in an offline single player game.
I've never played the game as it's not my style for the most part, but if what I'm hearing from fans of it on Atari Age etc are true, this is basically ripping the major reason to buy the game out and offering it back graciously for extra cash.
