So I moved over the weekend. It went somewhat smoothly despite being unable to get a truck rental to help. Luckily everything I own was able to fit (in multiple trips) in my brother in law's car. So by 1-2pm I was completely moved into the new place, and spent the next day or two sorting things, setting things up, and packing stuff I knew I wouldn't need within the next few years down in the storage locker.

So why did I take so long to return if I was completely moved on June 30th?

The power company is not that efficient.

I had arranged on thursday to get the power connected to the new place on Friday. In order to do that, I had to pay them the security deposit on thursday. I ran down to the nearest payment center on thursday and paid it, ran back and called them up and confirmed the payment with what sounded to be the same person I had talked to earlier to set up the account. He confirmed for me that yes it would be hooked up between 8-4:30 friday.

I had noticed on Friday, around noon, when I dropped by the place that the power still wasn't turned on. No biggy, as they had til 4:30. When I was moving in Saturday - it still wasn't connected. This meant I was going to be in darkness until Tuesday at the earliest since "they don't do connections over the weekend.". I also couldn't check with them via the phone since their automated system just tells you to call back during regular hours on mon-fri then hangs up on you - plus my phone wasn't working at the new place since... it requires the power to be on. (I had tried to call them on saturday before I finished moving out of the old place and got their phone system.)

So Mord spent the weekend in the dark.

He was not a happy camper, and that's pretty much what it felt like he was doing.

Tuesday I called the power company and the reason it wasn't connected is because whoever confirmed the receipt of the security deposit failed to remove the "on hold" status. So they made another appointment to get that done on wednesday. Wednesday, before I was going to work, it finally got connected.

Of course, there was problem with the phone line. I called the phone company on my way to work and they said there was a problem in the area that they were working on the area that might be the problem, but they would send a technician over on Thursday between 10-12 to make sure.

When I got home in the morning, the net wasn't working still so went to bed. Tech arrived around 12:15ish, got things working in about 10 minutes and here I am.

Granted I have next to no food til Sunday. I lost all the food I had in the fridge obviously, which luckily wasn't -too- bad, but was all my sandwich fixings. I have a little money in the bank but I'm hesitant to touch it since I think there's still the post dated cheque I sent to the student loan office to be taken out. I'm leaving to walk to the bank now after I post this to verify if it's been taken out already or not (I'm 99% positive that it hasn't been) and if it has been taken out, I'll buy a couple groceries out of the 19 odd dollars that will be left.
Not a fun move. Still need a lot of things for the apartment as well. But that'll be a rant for tomorrow.
