"Of course, Microsoft can’t make decisions for other companies or predict the choices that they might make in the future."
True! However. Mojang is no longer some 'other company'. They are now a division of Microsoft and not only can they predict Mojang's choices, they can damned well dictate them. Why they added this statement is beyond me unless they typoed the company name and intended to say 'Mojang can't make decisions for other companies...' which would be entirely correct and relevant to what's being discussed. It would mean regardless of what Mojang is saying now, they have no control over what actually does happen going forward.
When they said that, they were talking specifically about cross-platform support. "What about the other editions of Minecraft? Will they stop being developed? There’s no reason for the development, sales, and support of the PC/Mac, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, iOS, and Android versions of Minecraft to stop. Of course, Microsoft can’t make decisions for other companies... yadda yadda yadda." So I think what they meant when they said that was that they were talking about the owners of those other platforms. I.e., a sort of "If Microsoft ends up utterly fucking Minecraft up so much that Sony or Apple or whoever won't even want it on their platforms, which Microsoft probably will, then it's the fault of those other companies, not Microsoft's, if Minecraft ends up not being on those platforms anymore, so don't blame our new Microsoft overlords." passing the buck kind of deal.
It was a bullshit statement to make, though, no matter how you look at it.
