The Next Windows 10 Shitfest

So a week or two ago people started complaining about how Microsoft changed a few things to trick even more people into installing an OS they didn't want. Namely they went against the very nature of convention and changed the functionality of the big X button in the corner - that up until now would cancel the attempted upgrade the way it should - to instead mean confirmation of the scheduled time for the upgrade. Normally when you click an X it doesn't mean "OK". But that's what Microsoft did.

And it pissed people off. So Microsoft did their half-step back apology and promised it would soon have an update to get rid of that deceitful behaviour.

And it's now out! What change did they make? They removed the X button entirely. There is now no way to cancel the attempted install scheduling, beyond making sure none of the Windows 10 nagware patches are on your computer. (There's a few programs to help with this apparently, but it's getting progressively clear you'll have to shut off Windows updates completely before too long.)

At first I thought, "Hey I'll take advantage of the free upgrade just before the deadline." Now I'm not even sure if I want it.

Hopefully we'd still be able to at least do a Ctrl+Alt+Delete -> End Task/End Process on the upgrade, and maybe manually delete it from the scheduled tasks. I don't know. With all the scuzzy, deceitful bullshit they've already pulled up to now, I wouldn't put it past them to redirect even that into "yay do the unwanted upgrade anyway!"

As always, the more they try to force this shit, the more I will actively oppose it, and then simply switch to Linux when that becomes no longer possible.

Fuck Micro$hit forever. That is all.

Oh, and just for shits and giggles, I loaded up Windows Update again, same as I do each time there's some new story about Windows 10 bullshit, and let it search for new updates (though I haven't actually downloaded or installed any updates in months now) and, sure enough, there was KB3035583 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3035583) yet the fuck again, sitting there in the "Optional" section, italicized because it's "recommended." Even though I most definitely hid it once the hell again the last time I saw it. (http://owsf2000.livejournal.com/128736.html) They merely change the "publication date" on it, and there it pops up again, even though I continually hide the goddamn thing.

And again, fuck Micro$hit forever.

And now even though it's optional, they've helpfully ticked it for you!

I'm just waiting for it to inevitably start showing up in the "Important" section as a "Critical" update... ¬_¬

But then, of course, if one has their Windows Update set to "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates," which a lot of people do (and which I used to, but don't anymore, precisely because of this bullshit), then it'd already be showing up in the "Important" section.

Essentially, as it stands now, this is the relationship between Micro$hit and its customers (or the ones who aren't pretty much now committed to switching to Linux or whatever because of this horseshit, anyway).
