Metal shells

One thing I speak positively of for this generation, particularly on the xbox line, is the metallic shells some special editions like Doom 3 and Lost Planet had. I'm not entirely sure what draws me to them, and it doesn' t forgive all the DLC crap, but I like it. I would have preferred if that became standard honestly, rather then it going in the other direction to the extreme.

I bought Doom 3's limited edition mainly for the case. I'm not a super huge Doom fan, but I did play the first two games quite a bit back in the day, mainly on Kobanal's old comp. If it wasn't for the metal shell I likely would have been content to get a regular edition. <_< ... Is it a bad thing that the only good thing I can think about this generation is the cases some limited editions came in?

I like those too, though I don't know if those alone would be enough to get me to buy a limited edition of a game.

The ones I have that came with metal cases are Final Fantasy XII, Mass Effect, and Metroid Prime Trilogy. Fallout 3 came in an actual lunchbox, also made of metal of course.
