GOG.com

I'm now a registered member of GOG.com, using the same nick as in Livejournal. I'll also be uploading my ever so spiffy atari cartridge avatar icon to the account after The Longest Journey finishes downloading. (thanks Kane!)

I also got 4 other free games for signing up, which I'll try out a bit later. Those are Teen Agent, Beneath a Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, and Tyrian 2000. I know nothing about any of them. I also don't know if freebies like this are randomized when you join or if these are the ones you'd get if you signed up right now.

For the record I'm not overly fond of digital downloads, but GOG delivers in the ideal way. Non-DRM and cheaply priced. I don't spend large amounts of cash on electrons - I spend large amounts of money on pressed discs with good physical manuals, etc. The lack of DRM allows me to back the games up myself so I don't have to worry about GOG going belly up 10 years down the road and losing everything I ever purchased from them the next time my computer dies. This encourages sales, which helps prevent the potential going out of business scenario from ever occurring. Win win.

Of course I still can't say I've forgiven them for their little scare/joke that they played on their customers when they relaunched their site a year or so ago. But eh, we'll see how things go from here.

Let us know what you think of TLJ whenever you finish it. I know [livejournal.com profile] tokoz is a fan, but aside from her and one guy I went to DigiPen with, nobody I've personally talked to about it has ever played or even heard of the game before, which is damn crying shame as far as I'm concerned.
