Persona 4

I still haven't gotten a chance to really play through Persona 3 yet, but I saw that Persona 4 is out now on the way to work yesterday. That is I saw a copy of it at HMV. Kind of caught me by surprise really.

Unfortunately my video game budget is exhausted for 2008, so it'll have to wait til january at the earliest. (And Ar Tonelico 2 will be bought before Persona 4 regardless.)

Yeah, I'll have to wait at least until I get back from vacation at the end of December before I can get either of those. And I'd also like to finish them before getting the sequels.

On the bright side, however, I do have an as of yet unopened copy of Order of Ecclesia and a fully charged DS that will be going with me on my trip.

As a tip for collecting the glyphs, if you're offline and can't verify info with gamefaqs etc) in the enemy lists, you'll notice that there are 3 entries for item drops. You'll also notice that very few monsters seem to drop stuff compared to other games.

Keep one of everything until you have all the townspeople quests completed - as some things are in fact one-of-a-kind and if you lose it, you're out of luck unless you play through the game again.

Also, the 3rd item drop for monsters is special. If the monster drops a glyph, that's where it'll be listed. (And the 3rd position will always mean a glyph drop if it has a ? mark etc by it.

Finally, if the glyph from a monster can be obtained by killing it, the glyph will attempt to form with every kill, but usually fail to stabilize. If the enemy list shows it drops a glyph, but a glyph doesn't attempt to form on death, it means you'll have to absorb it while fighting the monster, as the monster will try to cast it. Just press up the second you see the glyph start to be cast and it'll be absorbed.

But I rant. ^^

Good game. I enjoyed it, almost like a funky Castlevania III in some respects. Half the game outside the castle, half the game inside. Just be warned that the game has the annoying tendency to throw powerful monsters in the middle of your path from time to time. You'll notice it when you see it. Just remember where they are and decide for yourself if you want to try to kick the crap out of it anyway, or take a few hits and run past it as fast as possible.

... But I continue to rant.

I pretty much completed the game over break, afaik. The only thing I haven't done is find the Alexandrite or whatever for the jeweler girl. Everything else is 100%, including glyphs, enemies, areas, etc. I'm only a little ways into a playthrough as Albus though. Not sure if there's a better ending or not, since I killed Albus in my first playthrough. Dunno if it's possible to save him or not or possible to beat Dracula without using Dominus at the end or not, etc. Just got home so haven't bothered to look at GameFAQs or anything though.

I did bypass the floating head guy and the killer robot guy in the prison that chase you if you get hit by the spotlight in various areas. The enemies I had the most trouble with were the double hammer guys, but those seemed to only be in the two extra areas you access from Dracula's castle, so they're probably intended to be that annoying anyway. Even leveled up to almost 80, those guys suck, though having the wings glyph helped a lot.

You probably found it in gamefaqs already, but you get the alexandrite stuff as a random item in the treasure chest at the end of the training room area. That place is tough when you're first going through it, although once you know where and when to jump, it's pretty easy. Problem is that it's like a 25-33% chance of getting that stuff, so you could have to run through it a hell of a lot of times. I think one of the stronger monsters also drop it rarely, but you'd probably be better off running the training room a 100 times hoping for the treasure chest to have it.

I'm not sure if there's a better ending for it either myself. I had started going through the game with the guy and have gotten up to the centaur boss in the castle. That thing is HARD with the guy due to no healing items etc. It's possible tho, you just have to not get hit. X_X

Many of the bosses were easier with him due to the rapid fire of the gun. The boss that you have to steal the glyph from to win is simply not in the game when you play the guy. You just use your warp ability to move past the wall.
