My top 10 favorite European bands

This doesn't mean the older bands that use to be on this list suck. I still listen to them, but as I said in the past, new material can move a band up the list for a while. Blind Guardian recently released A Twist in the Myth and thus you can see what it did for it's placement. Sonata Arctica released a new live album, For the Sake of Revenge, a while back as well which kept it pretty high on the list.


Demons & Wizards could probably be bumped up a few steps, and Kamelot has some potential as well - I just recently got their Black Halo cd which is quite good, but I haven't listened to anything else they've done. Only got this CD because that pandora music site thingy suggested one of their songs as something I'd probably like, and was correct.

I would like to reccommend to you the band Angra, though they are Argentine or Brazillian or something, rather than European.

Listened to a couple of their songs recently. Seemed pretty good, although starting to collect for another band is a bit unlikely at this point. x.x I may take a look to see if I can find some of their CDs secondhand and the like however. The name does sound familiar from the music stores, I must admit.

interesting how two of your favorite European bands are best described as 'American'. if they actually were from Europe, would they have gotten ranked higher?

Nope. The first time I did this list all the bands were actually European, and since then I've just been copy/pasting the list from a txt file and rearranging the bands before posting.
Which probably means for the next time I post it I should remove the reference of european from the header as I'm aware bands from other continents have started to apear on the list now and then.
