PS3 Upgrade
A few weeks ago I bought a second PS3 Slim that I found still available new at the store. (Rather than the Super Slims currently available everywhere)
Given the reports of the cheap feeling tray loader in the super slim, and that nothing of value was really added to it over the regular Slim, I decided to get the Slim. But it only had 160GB. Like my existing Slim.
My existing Slim's harddrive is already almost full due in part to being a PSN+ with all the freebies and discounts on various games. So I did some reading, then swapped out the new PS3's harddrive.
With a 1 terabyte drive.
Now, I had the option of backing up the original system, or transferring it. But neither really did what I wanted to do - that is, to more or less redownload all the existing downloads to the new system, since Sony allows you to download games to two PS3s linked to your psn account. I backed up and transferred my saved games, the ones that weren't locked to the console (That will be a rant for another day soon.) And I had my trophies synced to psn's online servers, so that was easy to reload.
All that's left is to redownload everything, which I'm going to do over the course of this week.
I'm also installing all my physical games since there's now plenty of room, and half of them (at least) will require the installation.
I did find out one thing however, and I can't say I'm too surprised, but disappointed at whoever made the decision all the same. TV shows and movies you've bought on PSN can only be linked to a single PS3. Rather than 2. So to transfer those over to the new system, I'll have to deactivate them on the original. Which is fine since it could use that extra 6-7 gigs. (I've only gotten a movie or two in HD so it's not going to be that painful to change up.)
Given that everything seems to be going just fine, later this year I'm probably going to swap out the harddrive of the first PS3 as well.
Only other news is that I've gotten some PSN and Steam gift cards for christmas this year. As a result, I've been making a bunch of purchases on the flash/daily/weekly sales that's been happening. I'll see about posting a list of what I've gotten recently later.
