New Monitor.

Got myself a HP vs17 LCD monitor today. A bit brighter than I'm use to, even after fiddling with the controls some. Might fiddle with them a bit more yet. Overall, however, I am pleased. Everything isn't as small as it was on the 14" monitor which I'm going to pack up in the closet for backup purposes in case this one ever dies on me suddenly. Well, there is one thing that irks me, but that's not the monitor's fault. The radiation screen I had for the old monitor doesn't look like it'll work well with this one. It's not quite long enough vertically, and ends up covering the task bar. Oh well, I'll survive now that I can push the monitor further away from my eyes.

Now I must sleep for a few hours. I expect tonight to be the first of many a long shift.

If you can't get it dark enough through fiddling with the controls on the monitor itself, you may be able to fix it by changing some of the software settings on your video card. I had the same problem on the old Packard Bell piece of crap monitor I was stuck with pre-August 2004, except it was the opposite. The monitor was too dark, but when I brightened things up with the video card software controls, it was better. Some games didn't take the adjusted settings into account and were still too dark, though.

If it's too bright, you probably want to turn down the color heat setting from 9300 k to 8300 k or even lower.

Been messing with the controls a bit since. It seems to be ok for me at present after messing with the color heat setting some. Not "perfect" but to get that I'll have to set up a custom setting, which I'm not feeling up to doing right now. :)
