It's funny, because removing "Gadgets" from Windows 8 (and all but completely disabling them in Windows 7) was done because Microsoft was, ostensibly, worried about "malicious code" or whatever being run on the computer.
This here bullshit with ads will, of course, become orders of magnitude worse, especially if they follow your prediction, which I don't doubt for a moment they will. This is why I run Adblock and NoScript on my browsers even now. I don't even allow exceptions for websites that I "trust," since even on those I've run into malware-laden ads. I sure as shit don't trust Microsoft at all not to fuck this up in some terrible way. Then again, the fact that they're running any ads at all to begin with is already a pretty serious fuckup on their part.
