Animaritime 2015

So I'm back from the con.

I didn't do everything I wanted to do since I was half asleep during the middle of the day. Didn't sleep that great, and my sleep schedule was a bit off. So I spent half the time in the games room, other half in the dealers room (Didn't buy too much, couldn't afford a heck of a lot in the end.)

Other than vol 2 of Spice & Wolf, and some anime I got at the yard sale (one full oav, and one full TV series for a total of 10 dollars, yay~) all I got were a bunch of old retro games that I haven't seen around town much/at all. Figgered this would be about the last chance to see them until next con or so, so I let myself splurge on them.

Genesis:
Romance of the Three Kingdoms II - didn't even know there was a genesis port of the game to be honest. They had it on the SNES as well but it was twice as expensive (25 as opposed to 12) I love this series, particularly II and III.

SNES:
Sim City - had to get it. ^^

NES:
Wizards & Warriors - I had 2 & 3 already. I played the first one a lot as a kid.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - this one I mostly finished as a kid, but can't remember much about it, thus the purchase. It was also dirt cheap.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 1 - I've never played this version of the game before, and from reviews/etc I remembered seeing, it was far more like their older attempts at this game. I'll likely play it at some point, but I doubt it will be too soon.

The Magic of Scheherazade - Another game I had growing up, and loved it to pieces. Out of all these games, this is likely to be the very next one to be played/completed.

Otherwise, I entered two smash bros tournaments, and was soundly beaten. I entered a Mario Kart 8 tournament and was soundly beaten. (Come on, I haven't played any of the games before - all Wii U games and all that.) Still, was quite fun.

In the Blind Mario Competition - where we were playing Super Mario Bros 1 blindfolded (well technically turned around since we had no blindfold) I got to about half way through 1-2. I don't think many people turned up for this, but I didn't really stick around either. It wasn't any official competition, just something for people to drop by and try.

LOTS of Sailor Moon cosplayers this year. Probably due to the new anime series playing, and because one of the guests was the singer for the original dub being at the con iirc. (There was a Sailor Moon Concert on one day, but I was too zonked out to attend.)

Animaritime 2014

So. I'm back from the convention. Only went for the first two of three days since we didn't have a hotel room in the hotel that the convention took place in. Our hotel was over an hour's walk from it which led to some logistic issues. :p

Overall it was fun to go to, but I really didn't take advantage of the con like I could have/should have. I had gone with my sister and niece, both of which had decided to cosplay. My sister decided to cosplay like a couple days before leaving for the convention. ^_^;

There's a chance I'll probably decide to cosplay next year myself as we're planning on going again in 2015. For the next con though we have a few things we need to do differently.

1. Make sure we got enough money for both the dealers room and the garage sale. Enough to last the weekend kinda thing. I had a bit over 100 bucks and I was too worried about spending it all on the first day that by the time I went back to the dealers room to get things that had caught my eye originally... they were already sold.

2. The Garage sale has a long freaking lineup. Get in line early. :P

3. The plushie making class has limited space. And when I think about it, there's also a 10 dollar cost for materials. Again, line up early! We got there a few minutes late and they were already full.

4. Register as soon as possible, and book our rooms at the hotel. We had registered a couple months in advance, but the hotel was already booked solid long before that apparently. Having a hotel room at the convention will make things a lot more convenient. We can go back to it if we get tired, to eat, etc easily. One of the reasons I didn't buy anything on the first day was because I'd have to lug it around with me all day long. Not fun if it's a poster that can get damaged fairly easily.

5. Getting a new camera and taking it with me next year. :P Would have loved to take pics of cosplayers myself. I didn't bother taking my current camera since it's pretty old and has a fairly crappy resolution anyhow. It has serious lighting issues too for me. ^^

6. Planning on doing cosplay myself if I can get a good costume done up and decide on a character I want to dress up as. Sister will likely be helping me with the costume making as she's into that kinda thing.

7. I'm going to gather up anime/manga/etc stuff that I no longer want this year and take it with me next year to be in the Garage Sale myself. Might be able to avoid the line up that way. ;) Plus it'll let me liquidate old stuff. win win.

8. While tentative, I might attempt to volunteer as well, if just a little bit. That's far less likely however as I want to spend my time enjoying the con. I'll have a harder time doing that if I'm stuck helping out. There are some cases where it would be useful, for instance helping out at an event I wanted to be at anyway would at least ensure I get to attend if it's popular and capped attendance.

I'm sure there are a few other things we were going to do differently, but eh. I'll remember them later.
